The Old Fighting Cocks is in the Oakengates Real Ale Triangle (R.A.T.). You’ve heard of the Bermuda Triangle, of course you have. Well this is a bit the same. Loads of pilots and yachtsmen (well canal boaters mainly) have reportedly entered The Oakengates Real Ale Triangle and can’t remember coming back out again.
The R.A.T. is formed by three excellent real ale pubs within a few yards of each other. The Old Fighting Cocks occupies the high ground with the Crown opposite and The Station next door. All three pubs specialise in offering quality real ales. There have been reports of over 30 real ales being served during one boozy night between these three pubs. If real ale is your thing then Oakengates is the place to aim for.
The Oakengates R.A.T. run has been tried by a few but mastered by none at all. A half a pint of each real ale in each of the three pubs in any session.
The Oakengates R.A.T. is just a few hundred yards from the Oakengates railway and bus stations.
